It’s a beautiful day in Orange County, as it often is.  The sun is shining and it’s time to go outside and enjoy your new teak outdoor furniture.  But one question comes to mind, do you know how to care for it? Teak furniture cleaning is really quite simple.

If you leave your garden teak furniture outdoors, in about three months, it will turn to a silver-gray color.   There is a lot of debate between style gurus.  Some people think that the look of weathered teak is beautiful, other people think it looks awful.   If you decide that you don’t want your outdoor wood furniture to weather naturally,it may be time to call in a teak refinishing service.  Repeating this process once a year should help your teak furniture to maintain its original caramel color.

Be careful of products like teak oil.  Sometimes, oil based teak care products can accumulate waxy buildup and start to look run down.  Then a teak refinishing company would need to come in to sand and refinish your furniture. They can also give you some good advice to clean your teak.

Teak Cleaning and Refinishing Tips

Once a year, it’s a good idea to thoroughly clean your teak furniture.  With soapy water,  scrub your furniture to remove accumulated dirt.

There are two ways to do teak cleaning.  You can do it by hand, or with a 900-1200 psi pressure hose.  Be careful if you wish to use the hose, stay at lease six feet away from the surface you’re cleaning. Let it air dry.  If you want to towel dry it, pat the surface in question, don’t rub.  And that’s it.  Simple?  You bet.

Over time,  teak furniture starts to develop small cracks.  This is actually perfectly normal, and a result of the changes in the weather as well as moisture conditions.   One way to solve this is to get teak sealing done by a professional.  As teak furniture doesn’t need to be slip resistant the way that teak decking does, you can seal it and help prevent wear and tear on your teak.
