Restoring Teak Furniture for a Community Landmark
At the Carmel Mountain Branch Library in San Diego, the City of San Diego entrusted us with the full restoration of their outdoor teak furniture. The benches and tables had experienced extensive weathering due to years of sun and moisture exposure. Our goal was to refresh these pieces and extend their lifespan while enhancing the beauty of the public space.
Process and Results
We began by deep-cleaning all surfaces to remove built-up grime, organic matter, and silvering caused by UV exposure. Once prepped, each bench and table was carefully treated with Semco Warm Honey, a teak sealer that revives the natural tone of the wood while offering long-lasting protection.
The warm golden finish not only improved the appearance of each piece but also matched the library’s serene outdoor aesthetic. Multiple sets across walkways, patios, and shaded seating areas were restored, providing comfortable and visually pleasing spots for visitors to sit and enjoy the space.
Why This Project Matters
By restoring rather than replacing, the City of San Diego saved significantly on costs while promoting sustainability. More importantly, the refreshed furniture helps maintain the inviting atmosphere of the Carmel Mountain Branch Library—one of the community’s most frequented gathering spaces.
