What is teak, and why do you need to get teak refinishing done on occasion.  Well, according to this Wikipedia article excerpt: “Teak is the common name for the tropical hardwood tree species Tectona grandis and its wood products. The species is placed in the family Lamiaceae. Tectona grandis is a large, deciduous tree that is dominant in mixed hardwood forests. Teak is found in a lot of places.  Go to a high-end import store that offers teak furniture.  When you walk in the door, probably the very first thing you’ll be able to smell isn’t a scented candle, it will probably be the teak.  Not that that is a bad thing.  Teak has a wonderful, homey smell.  Teak furniture can be both indoors and outdoors.  Outdoor teak furniture requires much different care than indoor teak does.

Teak Care for Outdoor Teak Furniture

First off.  We have covered this in other blog posts, but do not use teak oil.  It gives you a short-term glow on your furniture, it also builds up residue on your teak.  Use instead of a teak safe cleaner, something neutral pH.  Never use bleach or any harsh chemicals on teak.

Another thing to be careful of is to make sure you take care when you’re cleaning your furniture.  Our next article will cover teak cleaning tips for your outdoor teak furniture. Be sure to read part three of this series as well.
