Trusted Deck Refinishing Services Restoring Southern California Outdoor Living Spaces
Teak & Deck Professionals provides deck refinishing services across San Diego, Los Angeles, and Orange County for homeowners whose decks have grayed, dulled, or lost their protective seal. Below, you'll find our process, the wood species we handle, and what to expect when scheduling. Based in Carlsbad, we have been refinishing decks in the area for over 25 years. We clean, sand, stain, and seal redwood, cedar, and pressure-treated decks back to their original beauty.
Why Does Your Deck Need Refinishing?
Deck refinishing matters in San Diego because of intense UV radiation, coastal moisture, and salt air working on the wood together. Untreated deck boards bleach and crack faster here than homeowners expect, and a deck that goes two or three seasons without attention loses its protective seal, develops gray spots, and starts absorbing moisture into the wood's cellular structure. Refinishing reverses that damage, protects against UV rays and everyday wear, and extends the deck's longevity without the disruption and cost of full replacement.
Our Deck Refinishing Services
Our crews handle the full restoration process from start to finish, adapting to each deck's design, size, and condition. Every project begins with a thorough inspection of the deck surface, boards, posts, and railings.

The Deck Refinishing and Restoration Process
STEP 01
Contact Us and Schedule
Call us, and we will assess your deck's wood type, size, and condition over the phone, then confirm your firm price. Lead times run 1 to 6 weeks, depending on the season.
STEP 02
Inspection and Preparation
We inspect the deck surface, boards, posts, and railings for damage, soft spots, and wear, with extra attention to fastener corrosion on decks near the coast. Anything compromising safety gets flagged. We clear furniture and protect garden beds with drop cloths.
STEP 03
Cleaning
Professional deck cleaners and a pressure washer with the correct tip remove dirt, mold, mildew, and old finishes without damaging the wood grain. Old stain can also come off with a deck stripper applied 15 to 45 minutes before rinsing. This is the most important step — contaminants left behind produce uneven absorption and a finish that fails within a season.
STEP 04
Drying and Sanding
The wood dries for a minimum of 36 hours before anything else. We then sand with the grain, removing stubborn finish and leveling the surface. A pole sander handles the main boards; detail equipment handles railings and edges.
STEP 05
Staining, Sealing, and Walkthrough
A first coat of professional-grade semi-transparent stain goes on with overlapping strokes along the grain, followed by a second coat once the first has dried. High-quality penetrating stains outperform solid paints on decks and deliver UV and moisture protection while preserving the wood's natural appearance.

Restore Your Deck Before the Damage Reaches the Boards
Gray spots and water soaking into the surface instead of beading mean the seal has already failed. Refinishing now costs a fraction of replacing boards later, and a well-maintained deck holds its beauty for years before the next cycle. Get your firm price over the phone.
